Drawing Table for One

Drawing + food = the marriage of my two favorite obsessions
PICNIC is the sister restaurant of Raven Grill (also featured on Drawing Table for One). This adorable little sandwich and bakery is a delicious homage to all things picnic related. Stop by and pick up the perfect box lunch to enjoy outside at your local park , or dine-in and sit at one of the long, communal picnic tables.

Kraftsmen Bakery makes great sandwichs and apparently amazing butternut squash soup. I think I will do my next drawing here. :)  Can’t go wrong with more butternut squash soup.

Who can resist the sweet temptation of delicious gelato on a warm Saturday afternoon. When I’m craving the best in Houston, I head straight for Sweet Cup located on Montrose Blvd between Richmond and W. Alabama. The incredible range of flavors change regularly and if you’ve been to Italy, prepare to be reminded why you fell in love with gelato in the first place.

Blog Love : Turntable Kitchen

Loving this blog! Especially this recipe for Crêpes with Sugar and Lemon… plus there’s a suggested musical pairing at the bottom of the page. Too cute! The inspired couple who run the blog (and reside in beautiful San Francisco) aim to introduce food lovers to music and vice versa. Check it out. Great photography, taste in food, and music.

Antidote is a great little coffee shop in the Houston Heights. The space is super casual and you’ll find families relaxing with their children, folks on their laptops taking advantage of the free wi-fi, and post-work professionals relaxing with a beer or glass of wine. I met a client for a cup of coffee and drew the interior before he arrived. The mom in the image kept on giving me a crazy look because she noticed me drawing them. Haha! Ooops.

The beauty of working for yourself is that you’re not stuck in the same old office ALL THE TIME. Last week we decided to get some work done at Down House (located in Houston Heights on Yale Street). Excellent coffee, farm fresh eggs, a crunchy baguette, and smooth tunes make it a primo location for us “mobile” professionals. Haha! :)

A cool day in September in Houston, TX is about as common as a vegetarian cowboy. Whenever the temps drop, even just a little bit, I want to do everything outside. Hermann Park (which is close to where I live) was calling my name that day - I had to go there. I managed to convince my business partner (a huge fan of air-conditioning) to sit outside for a bit to brainstorm on upcoming projects. While discussing business, I managed to squeeze in a quick drawing. The sound of giggling children, birds flying overhead, the fountain cooling off the air around the pond… not a bad place to office. :)

Today’s “drawing table for one” was standing room only since I ventured into Houston’s Museum of Fine Art for a little gallery sketching. The Art of India collection has this lovely relief of Ganesh and Siddhi which I’ve always admired. Today I decided to draw it with Paper. I love this piece. The two of them enjoying each other company in their cosmic-snuggle. Ah, amore…  :)
